Period 1

Ⅳ Teaching procedures:

Step 1 warming up

ask the students about the Olympic games and let them discuss in pairs. Ask the students to tell sth about the Olympic games in their own words. Introduce the Olympic games to the students. Complete the exercises in the “ warming up”

Step 2 listening:

The listening consists of three sports reports and it tells us three kinds of sports.

1. Ask the students two questions:

Do you like sports?

What sports do you know?

What sports are you good at?

What sports do you do in PE class?

2. Tell the students they will listen to three kinds of sports they like in their daily lives.

3. For the first time, ask the students only to listen and not to take any notes. For the second time write down they key words and the questions I full sentences.

Step 3 Practice in class.

Listen to the three sports reports for another time and fill in the blanks.

Have the students make a dialogue according to one of the reports on the tape.

Go over the new words and phrases in this part such as: lay-off, win against, a 2-1 lead, score the goal, etc.

Homework:

Period 2

Ⅰ Teaching aims:

1. talk about the favourite sports.

2. Talk about interests and hobbies

Ⅱ Important points:

Useful expressions about interests and hobbies:

Ⅲ Difficult points:

I prefer…to ….

I’d rather watch it than play it.

Ⅳ Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Revision

Get the students to talk about all kinds of sports they know. Ask the students some common questions about sports.

Step 2 Speaking

In this activity, the students will practice expressing their opinion about sports. Then they’ll be asked to talk about interests and hobbies in useful expressions.

Step 3 Interview

1) ask the students to interview their friends and give at least one reason to support their opinion.

2) Ask some questions

3) Ask the ss to word in pairs, talk about their interests and hobbies in useful expressions.

Step 4 practice in class

1) Extension: ask the ss to compare different sports and look for things that people seem to enjoy.

2) Wb ex 2. Having a discussion about the causes and effects of some serious problems in the Olympic games

Ⅰ Teaching aims:

Get to know the Olympic games. Read words and expressions by heart.

Ⅱ Important points:

1) Information about sports from the text.

2) New words and expressions such as athlete, compete, competitor, competition, motto, medal, gymnastic, torch, etc.

Ⅲ Difficult points:

Practice the following language points:

1) every four years/ every fourth year / every second day/every two days/every other day

2) do one’s best/ try one’s best

Ⅳ Teaching procedures:

Step one: Revision

Get the ss to talk about sports in useful expressions and work in pairs.

Step two: Pre-reading

Ask the students to discuss in groups to answer the pre-reading questions and introduce the topic of the text. At the same time help them activate background knowledge.

Step three: Reading

First, get the students to read the new words and expressions correctly.

Then get the students to read the passage quickly. Ask the students some simple questions such as:

How often are the Olympic Games held?

Where were the first Olympic Games held?

Who was allowed to take part in the ancient games?

Next, ask the students to read the text more carefully. Get them answer more detailed questions.

What were the old Olympic games like?

When were the old Olympic games held?

When were the first modern Olympic games held?

How many athletes took part in the 2000 Olympic games?

What does the Olympic motto mean?

How many gold medals did Carl Lewis win in the 1984 olympic game.

Where will the 29th olypic games?

Play the tape for them to listen and make some students read it again. Check their pronunciation.

Deal with some language problems.

1. Every +基数词+时间/距离单位(plural form) 表“每多少时间/距离”

every +序数词+时间/距离(singular form)

e.g. every five days=every fifth day 每五天/每隔四天

every ten metres=every tenth meter 每十米/每隔九米

2. ranking the third of all the competing countries 是一个动词ing 形式短语作伴随状语。

Step 4 practice in class.

Ask the ss to answer the following questions:

What is the text about? Describe it in your own words.

Step 5 Post-reading

1) answer the post-reading questions

2) write complete sentences to fill the chart with the information.

Homework:

read the passage again. Try to retell the passage.

Period 4

Ⅰ Teaching aims:

Understand and remember new words and expressions.

Grammar: the future passive voice.

Ⅱ Important points:

To form the future passive, use will be done which gives the idea that something will happen in the future..

Ⅲ Difficulties:

Use the future passive voice to make sentences such as: More trees will be planted and new roads will be built by the people of Beijing.

Ⅳ Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Revision

Talk about something about the Olympic games.

Ask them to give as many words about the Olympic games as possible. Write them down on the blackboard. The teacher can help them remember more words or phrases such as Olympic torch, Olympic flag, Olympic motto, Olympic rings.

Step 2 word study

Since the preparation has been required. So when dealing with this part, have the students close their books. Then read the whole sentence and tell them the first letter for each, then have the give the right word and spell it.

Step 3 Grammar

The structure of the future passive voice: will/shall be done. It gives the idea that something will happen in the future.

1) They will not paint the house again next year.

→the house will not be painted again next year.

2) What tools shall we needed in the work?

→what tools will be needed in the work.

3) What shall we do to stop the river from being polluted?

→what will be done to stop the river from being polluted?

Step 4 Practise in class

Practicing of wb exercise “grammar” using the passive voice to make sentences.

Homework

Go over the pattern of the Future Passive Voice and practice it by making sentences.

Period 5

Ⅰ. Teaching aims:

Integrating skill: read the passage and answer some questions with the information from the text.

Ⅱ. Important points:

Read the passage and write a profile of a sports star.

Ⅲ. Difficulties

Grammar: the future passive voice.

Ⅳ. Teaching procedure:

Step 1 Revision

check the wb exercises. Ask the ss to use the passive voice to make sentences.

Help the students go over how to read decimal fraction and fraction(小数和分数) .

Get them to know the units(计量单位) as foot, inch, metre, centimeter, etc.

Step 2 Reading Yao Ming

The reading passage is a profile of Yao Ming, a great Chinese basketball player. The text tells when and where was he born, how much does he weigh, what makes him great? Etc.

Instruction:

1) play the tape for the ss to listen and understand, then answer the following questions:

when and where was he born?

How much does he weigh?

What titles has he won?

How tall is he?

2) Make the students read the text in a detailed way and have them to say the advantages(优势,有利条件) for Yao Ming to be one of the best basketball players in the world.

3) Ask the ss to read about Yao Ming again and think about what makes an athlete great and successful. Discuss in pairs and give their opinions.

Step 3 Writing

Ask the students to write a profile of a sports star to practise describing a person. Let the students choose their favourite star. Students can use the reading passage and exercise 2 as example.

Step 4 checkpoint 8

Get the students to fill in the blanks and explain. Revise the future passive voice with them.

Give them more sentences to practice using this tense.

Homework:

read the passage “ For the love of the game” of wb exercises.
