Write: There are three tall blocks in the housing estate. Ask: How many floors are there in Block 1/2/3? to elicit: There are (number) floors. Review: tall and taller. Ask: Which block is taller than Block 3 ? Which block is taller than Block 2 ? Write: Block 2 is taller than Block 3. Block 1 is taller than Block 2. Block 1 is taller than Block 2 and Block 3. Block 1 is the tallest.

2 Play the recording: Look and learn. Students listen and repeat.

3 Explain to the class that the picture in Point, ask and answer is a bird's-eye view of the one on page 22.

4 Students work in pairs to complete the dialogues in Point, ask and answer. Give them 2-3 minutes to read and prepare the dialogues. Then invite three pairs to come out and act a dialogue each.

While-task procedure

1 Divide the students into groups. Give each group a copy of Photocopiable pages 37-39. Ask the students to cut out the picture cards first. Then they take turns to tell the other group members about their living environment. Encourage them to use the prepositions they learnt in SBs 3A-5B, e.g. beside, behind, between, in front of, etc. For example, On the ground floor, there is a kindergarten. The other group members put the cut-out pictures on the floor plan accordingly.

2 The student who tells the other group members about his/her living environment looks at the floor plan carefully. He/She is to make amendments whenever necessary, e.g. I'm sorry. The supermarket is behind my block. It's not on the right of my block. Or: No, the fountain is between the playground and the garden. It is not between the two blocks.

3 Distribute a copy of Photocopiable pages 37-39 to each student again. Students complete Draw, ask and answer individually. Each student is required to make a plan of where he/she lives by cutting out the picture cards and sticking them onto suitable places on their plans. Allow the more able students to draw their own plans. The completed plan of each student can be combined into a collection entitled Our homes.
